EMERGING IMPACT AREA – BUSINESSES

Chess-Based Learning for Businesses

A VEHICLE FOR TEAM PRACTICE

How chess-based learning for businesses supports team practice

Rather than treating these as abstract soft skills, a structured chess session gives teams a live setting in which to examine how they think, communicate and make decisions together.

Strategic thinking

Practise looking beyond the immediate move and identifying several possible paths.

Collaborative decisions

Make assumptions, alternatives and trade-offs discussable within the team.

Team engagement

Use a shared activity to observe communication, pressure and respectful disagreement.

DEVELOPMENT STATUS

A responsible pilot before a proven programme

CLI is exploring how to bring chess-based learning for businesses into workplace contexts. The concept draws on three decades of educational practice and our school programmes, but business use needs its own design, partner fit and evaluation.

A responsible pilot would begin with agreed learning questions, define the session scope, gather participant feedback and review whether the format fits the team’s context. The programme would be refined only from that evidence, and outcomes would not be presented as proven until evaluation supports them.

What is established

Our chess-based learning methodology can structure practice around planning, trade-offs, pressure and respectful engagement.

What remains to be built

Session design, partner fit and evaluation must be developed before the offer is presented as a proven business programme.
